Overview

The Nimorian Calendar is a semi-standard system of timekeeping used across the continent for trade and official records by the Forum.

It is derived from the Trade Union Calendar, created following the liberation and founding of Sarnevalia. Sarnevalia entered a solidarity treaty with the rebellion that split off from the then Tianren ruled nation of Koushima and aided them in freeing their archipelago (who would go on to become the Seishin). The partnership covered trade, protection, and other shared concerns.

At first only the two factions used the calendar to coordinate commerce and other affairs, but as trade networks widened, others joined the union and adopted the system. Its practicality and frequent use among merchants also led some non-members to employ it informally.

  • Each year consists of two cycles or four seasons, and 360 days.
  • There are six months; Stormrise, Stormkeep, Stormfall, Sailrise, Sailkeep, Sailfall.
  • Each month is split into two 30-day phases roughly aligned with the lunar orbit; Early and Late, which totals to 60 days.
  • Each week consists of six days; (TBA)

The Forum later incorporated the calendar into its own records, aligning it with older historical era classifications from the Selkian Empire. This adaptation became known as the Nimorian Calendar and is now the primary system the Forum uses for historical documentation and interregional consistency.

Cycles, Seasons, Months & Days

Though seasons in various regions across Nimoria don't perfectly fit this pattern, the difference isn't enough to shift the calendar too much.

Every year the continent goes through two cycles; the Storm Cycle and Sail Cycle, which mark the Wet and Dry seasons respectively. The former is the portion of the year in which storms are frequent and sailing is less favorable, and the latter is the part of the year where storms are less frequent and sailing is more favorable. Each cycle is further subdivided into 60-day periods that generally mark trends for them.

Storm Cycle

  • Stormrise — The beginning of the wet period, marked by a notable increase in storms, though not as many yet as more will come later.
  • Stormkeep — Save for yearly fluctuation, the worst portion of the year for shipments. Has the most storms.
  • Stormfall — Storms begin to die down.

Sail Cycle

  • Sailrise — Beginning of the dry period. Storms persist but begin to become less frequent.
  • Sailkeep — Height of the dry period, storms are very infrequent and sailing is optimal.
  • Sailfall — Decline of the dry period, likely a poor time for crops, though storms are expected to increase.

Historical Eras

The Forum also divides history into eras defined by major events within Nimoria, as well as those that affected the world of Yoren at large or exerted lasting influence over the course of history.

B.S.E. (Before Shattered Era)

The backwards era marking stretching from the beginning of time until the settlement of Nimoria by the first wave of Proto-Dalric Immigrants from the East and the gradual proliferation of Kalmenid peoples both locally and across the Eastern continents.

F.S.E. (First Shattered Era)

Began after the First Shattering, which introduced the modern form of magic into the world and led to dramatically accelerated progress across the millennia.

This era is also marked by the widespread emergence of non-Kalmenid sapients brought about by Chorus Points, including Fey-descended lineages, Istania, and Therianids.

It concludes with the formation of the first three Esternian empires: the Elven-ruled Tianzhou, the Therianids-ruled Maelstravia, and the Kalmenid-ruled Selkia.

I.E. (Imperial Era)

Countless empires rose during this era, though many ultimately perished in the Cinderfall War, a vast, multi-continental conflict on the eastern hemisphere that lasted 150 years and culminated in the Second Shattering.

This catastrophe brought about the collapse of the Selkian empire, which survived only through its diaspora colonies locally but mostly in Nimoria.

S.S.E. (Second Shattered Era)

The age following the end of the Cinderfall War, largely defined by recovery and reconstruction among the surviving nations and empires.

The Thaumatarchate Council was formed during this period.

U.E. (Union Era)

Marked by the formation of The Sarneishin Trade Union shortly after the liberation and founding of Sarnevalia.

This era also saw the final wave of Eastern settlers, the outbreak of the Withering Plague, and all events that would follow.
